For the cassava bread rings, slowly heat lard in a small skillet.

Combine cassava flour, cornmeal and anise in a bowl. Add small cubed cheese. Rub flour-cheese mixture between hands until only small pieces of cheese remain.

Add the liquid fat to the flour-cheese mixture and stir through with a sieve ladle. Add a little salt to the milk and mix with the egg. Add to the dough mixture and knead everything together. Add a little more salt to taste.

Divide the dough into pieces. Form a roll from each piece and close it into a ring. Place on a baking tray lined with baking paper. Bake on the middle shelf in an oven preheated to 220 degrees for about 30 minutes.

Let the cassava bread rings cool briefly after baking and serve while still warm.
