For chocolate mousse, first prepare a vanilla cream. To do this, mix the egg yolks with the sugar until creamy. Bring the milk to the boil with the split vanilla pod.

Remove the pod and stir the hot milk into the egg yolk mixture. Then heat this mixture in a hot water bath, stirring constantly, until it thickens and finally becomes creamy.

Chop or possibly grate the chocolate into fine pieces, pour in and stir until completely dissolved. Then let the mixture cool to room temperature.

Whip the whipped cream until stiff, fold it in carefully and pour the chocolate mousse into a baking dish or into portion moulds and allow to set.
