A simple but delicious cake recipe:

Chop the candied orange peel very finely. Place the flour in a large enough bowl and make a well. Crumble the yeast into the indentation. Add 2 tbsp. lukewarm water and 1 tsp. of the total sugar to the yeast. Allow the yeast to melt in the water and knead together with a little flour from the baking bowl to form a soft dough. Cover with flour from the baking bowl. Cover and let rise in a warm place for 25 to half an hour. Warm the milk slightly and melt the butter in it. Add the egg yolks, salt, vanilla sugar and sugar to the warm milk and butter mixture and whisk until smooth. Add the mixture to the steam in the baking bowl and knead all the ingredients together to form a dough. Beat the dough heartily by hand for 10 min until smooth and pliable. Stir in the chopped candied orange peel. Shape the dough into a ball and dust lightly with flour. Cover with a tea towel and leave in a warm place for about 1 hour. Preheat the oven to 180 °C.
