For the cream cheese spelt dumplings, mix butter, cream cheese and eggs, then add all the other ingredients (except the cherries) and let the dough stand for about half an hour so that the semolina can absorb liquid.

Put water on to boil with a little salt. Prick the dough into dumplings with a teaspoon and put them into the boiling (not bubbling) water.

Shake the pot from time to time to loosen any dumplings that may be sticking to the bottom. When the dumplings float to the surface (after about 5 minutes), remove them with a sieve spoon, let them drain in a sieve and then serve them with powdered sugar and compote.
