Thinly chop the crusts of the bread slices and toast them on both sides under the broiler until golden brown. Peel the onions, halve them and cut them into thin slices.

Melt 2/3 of the butter in the pan, fry the onions until golden brown. Season with salt and pepper.

Place two slices of white bread next to each other on a baking tray or in a casserole dish, drizzle with wine and top with ham. Cut the rind of the raclette cheese into small pieces. In two stages (*), place 3 slices on each bread slice. Bake until cheese begins to melt.

In the meantime, melt remaining butter in frying pan and toast fried eggs.

Arrange gratinated bread slices on hot plates. Spread onions evenly on cheese, place fried egg on top. Bring to table immediately.

(*) It is important not to melt all cheese at once.

Tip: It is best to use your favorite ham – then your dish will taste twice as good!
