For the donuts, dissolve yeast in a little lukewarm water and mix with 1 tsp sugar and 1 tsp flour. Let rise for about 10 minutes until the mixture has doubled in size.

Mix the flour with the remaining sugar, vanilla sugar and salt and add the dampfl and stir in. Add the melted butter, lukewarm milk and beaten eggs and knead into a soft dough.

Cover the dough and let it rise until it has doubled in volume. Roll out the dough to about the thickness of a thumb. Cut out donuts with round cookie cutters (you can also use a glass) and let rise again, covered, on a floured surface for about an hour.

Bake donuts in 175 degree hot grease until light brown. While still warm, dip one side of the donuts in sugar or chocolate glaze and decorate with colorful sprinkles or just sprinkle with cinnamon sugar.
