For the fluffy butter plait, mix the yeast with the lukewarm milk using a hand mixer until it has dissolved. Add the sugar and egg and mix well.

Add the mixture to the flour in a large bowl and mix briefly, add softened butter and salt and knead into an elastic dough. Cover and let rise for at least an hour until doubled in volume.

Knead the dough briefly (add some more flour if necessary) and let it rise again (at least 30 minutes). Now divide the dough into equal pieces (depending on whether you want to braid a 2-, 3-, 4- or 6-strand braid), roll them out and braid a braid.

With a 4- or 6-strand braid, the dough will be even fluffier. Cover and let rise again for about 20 minutes. Whisk an egg with 1-2 tablespoons of milk and brush the braid with it.

Bake in the oven at 180 degrees top and bottom heat for about 30 minutes.
