Place uncut garlic bulbs in broiler with hot wood ash and embers to cover. Cook until the outer cloves are slightly charred on the surface. Serve very hot with white bread and butter. Like a fragrant cream, squeeze clove by clove from the bowl onto the bread. The lightly toasted cloves have a slightly different but equally delicious aroma.
