For the mulled wine wafers, wash the orange and lemon halves hot, dry them and grate 1 tsp of zest from each.

Beat butter and sugar in a bowl with the beaters of a hand mixer until fluffy. Thoroughly beat in the eggs, one at a time.

Combine the flour, baking powder and spices in a bowl and stir in alternately with the red wine and orange and lemon zest.

Preheat the waffle iron, grease the baking surfaces thinly. Place about 2 tablespoons of batter in the center of the bottom baking surface and close the waffle iron.

Bake the mulled wine waffles for about 2 minutes until crisp and light brown. Remove the waffles and place on a cooling rack. Proceed in the same way with the remaining batter and bake seven more waffles.
