For the okra with chickpeas, wash the okra, dry well and cut off stems if necessary. Halve and slice the onion, also slice the garlic.

Peel the ginger and grate finely. Heat olive oil in a pan and fry okra until brown all over. Reduce heat slightly, add onions and sauté until translucent.

Sauté garlic briefly. Add tomatoes in pieces, chili, sugar, salt and cumin and simmer for 10 minutes.

Add the chickpeas and ginger and simmer for another 5 minutes. Season with salt and serve best with rice and chopped parsley.
